National Education and Social Studies
Vision
Leaders who love and have confidence in Singapore and contribute towards building a Singapore for all.
Mission
To prepare CCPKS leaders to be citizens of tomorrow by helping them to better understand the interconnectedness between Singapore and the world they live in and appreciate the experiences from the past to present.
National Education and Social Studies (NE-SS)
The National Education and Social Studies (NE-SS) Committee comprises of two sections, National Education and Social Studies.
National Education is part of holistic education. It aims to foster national cohesion, cultivate the instinct for survival as a nation and instill in our students confidence in our nation’s future. It also emphasises cultivating a sense of belonging and emotional rootedness to Singapore.
The Social Studies curriculum aims to develop the civic competencies of our students by the end of a full course in Social Studies education. Civic competencies, which encompass the relevant knowledge about issues, critical and reflective thinking skills and values, will empower students to be informed, concerned and participative citizens for the world they live in.
C.A.R.E Approach to NE-SS
In CCKPS, we engage our students in a Character-Attitude-Reflection-Engagement (C.A.R.E) approach. We believe that character is built through instructions so our Social Studies and Character & Citizenship Education curriculum are integrated with NE-focused lessons.
Our students’ attitude is mold through experiences during the NE commemorative days. They are actively engage in discussions and reflections in creating meaning and identity of themselves as Singaporeans and as global citizens.
Students will participate in V.I.A activities – to be active citizens who have a collective resolve and a sense of shared mission towards building a Singapore for all.

Attitude (Mould through Experience)
1. NE commemorative days in CCKPS comprises of mass assembly and a whole week of meaningful recess activities to foster a sense of pride and belonging to Singapore. The NE commemorative days are:
Total Defence Day | Total Defence Day is held on 15 February each year to commemorate the fall of Singapore to the Japanese in 1942. On this day, activities held in school serve to remind pupils that Singapore can be defended and is worth defending, and that Singaporeans themselves are responsible for the defence of Singapore. Students will learn the 6 aspects of Total Defence and how they can play a part in each aspect. |
International Friendship Day | International Friendship Day is celebrated in schools on the third Friday of Term Two. This is a day dedicated to the understanding of Singapore's relations with its neighbours, and aims to nurture in students the spirit of friendship and collaboration among different people. |
Racial Harmony Day | Racial Harmony Day, which is commemorated on 21 July, marks the race riots that broke out in Singapore on this day in 1964, reminding students that social division weakens society, and that race and religion will always be potential fault-lines in Singapore’s society. It is a day for students to reflect on and celebrate the nation’s success as a harmonious society, built on cultural diversity. |
National Day | National Day on 9 August celebrates Singapore’s independence from Malaysia and its emergence as a sovereign nation. We come together to celebrate Singapore’s achievements, progress and stay strong as a nation. |
Primary 5 National Education Show | All Primary 5 students are invited to attend the National Education Show, which is essentially a preview of the National Day Parade. The parade provides a unifying experience amongst each cohort of students on what it means to be a Singaporean, evoke in them a sense of pride and patriotism and to impart to them the significance of National Day. |
